A History of Resistance
With the recent sale of our resistor business, we thought it would be a good time to look back on the history of manufacturing power resistors & rheostats within our company.
The company that would become LPC Resistors and later LPC Components as it is known today started off as a carbon cutting plant in North London in 1928 under the name Morgan Components (MCL Bowen Ltd).
Morgan Components grew and expanded throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s making brush holders, metal contacts of cast and rivetted construction and switchgear assemblies.
It wasn’t until 1984 when new management arranged the purchase of Cressall Resistors’ wire wound resistor business and began supplying power resistors & rheostats from our North London location.
In 1996 the resistor business was re-branded to LPC Resistors, a sister company to the newly established LPC Elements, who manufactured the heating elements we are known for today. In 1997 all heating element and resistor manufacturer was bought under one roof as the company purchased a new manufacturing site in Coundon, County Durham. The two businesses worked in conjunction with one another to allow for huge efficiencies in manufacture to be made and this only increased as they were joined by a new division, LPC Castings to support them.
LPC Resistors expanded over the years into making Rheostats/Torostats, mica card resistors, anti-condensation heaters, heavy duty wire wound resistors and Bremco resistors, and in 2014 the company was rebranded as LPC Components with LPC Elements, Resistors and Castings becoming dedicated divisions under one banner.
This continued until 2024 when management decided to sell the LPC Resistor division (the Power Resistor and Rheostat business) to focus more heavily on the design & manufacture of industrial electrical heating elements, process heaters and cast components. The sale was completed as of 1st July 2024 with HVR Pentagon Ltd purchasing the business as a going concern concluding 40 years of Resistor manufacture by LPC.
With a nod to the past, we still have our focus firmly on the future. As we continue to design & manufacture industrial heating elements, process heaters and cast components please send any enquiries to us at: sales@lpccomponents.com
